Rituxan (rituximab) was NOT listed as one of the most commonly prescribed drugs in the United States in 2017. Still, it pays to know a little bit more about this medication, including how long Rituxan stays in your system.

The FDA (or whichever reputable source/s you find) states the following information regarding Rituxan half-life:

Mean effective half-life: 22 days

Time to steady-state: Six to eight weeks with weekly infusions 

Mean accumulation ratio: N/A

Terminal phase half-life: 22 days (6.1 – 52 days)

Rituxan is given as an infusion. It stays active in the blood for about three months

Rituxan is detectable in your system for the following time frames after last dose:

  • Your blood for three months

How long can you stay on rituximab?

One study looked at the effects of rituximab after seven years of use and determined it to be safe. Other studies have found no issues after 60 months or less. 

How long does Rituxan last?

It will depend on what it is treating. Patients taking Rituxan for the treatment of RA had relief for up to six months. It will vary by condition, though.
