Clonidine for ADHD is an important treatment option because it has a calming effect, especially for children. That calming can help kids with hyperactivity, impulsivity, aggression, and sleep issues. 

Clonidine releases the neurotransmitter norepinephrine into an area of the brain that controls executive functions, allowing for better focus. 

Dosage

Please note that dosing may look different for everyone. Dosing typically looks like the following, but you should always follow your doctor’s dosing instructions:

  • For children over age six: 0.1 mg once a day at bedtime
  • For children under six: Dose determined by a doctor
