The relationship between Cimzia and alcohol is a little complicated. Namely, people taking certolizumab pegol may be able to consume alcohol in moderation. However, it’s important to consider how alcohol may negatively affect the underlying medical condition for which this medication is prescribed. Cimzia may also be prescribed with other drugs that may negatively interact with alcohol.
Side Effects
It’s not clear if alcohol will directly affect the action and effectiveness of Cimzia. However, drinking alcohol while having an autoimmune disorder may worsen side effects of the underlying condition. Consuming alcohol may also lead to side effects also seen with Cimzia, including headaches.
Interactions
Both Cimzia and alcohol can affect liver function and health. So, liver toxicity and altered liver function tests (LFTs) are possible if taking both drugs together.
