Mirtazapine and alcohol interactions can occur. Alcohol consumption is not recommended when taking mirtazapine due to the side effects below.
Side Effects
Those drinking alcohol while taking mirtazapine will experience an enhancement of the effects of alcohol, such as poor motor skills and cognitive functions.
Interactions
Both alcohol and mirtazapine impact chemical levels in the central nervous system (CNS). Alcohol increases the effect of the mirtazapine on the CNS, leading to impairment of motor skills, judgment, and concentration. In other words, these drugs amplify each other’s effects, leading to heightened symptoms like excessive drowsiness, confusion, and lack of motor skills.
