Just like with most medications, consuming alcohol while taking prednisone can have adverse or harmful interactions.

Side Effects

If you consume alcohol while taking prednisone or another steroid, you may experience adverse side effects. These include:

  • Upset stomach
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Dizziness
  • Lightheadedness

Generally speaking, the more alcohol you consume while taking steroids, the more potential it has to harm your body. In some cases, alcohol can also exacerbate the common side effects of prednisone.

Ask your doctor before drinking alcohol while taking steroid tablets. Your doctor’s answer will depend on your medical condition(s) and any other medication(s) you are taking. Aside from alcohol, prednisone has other interactions you should be aware of.
