Zoloft and alcohol interactions can occur. Alcohol can increase certain nervous system effects of sertraline (Zoloft) to cause drowsiness, dizziness, and difficulty concentrating. Some consumers further experience impaired thinking and judgment.

Side Effects

Zoloft side effects include:

  • Nausea, loss of appetite, indigestion
  • Diarrhea
  • Change in sleep habits, such as increased sleepiness or insomnia
  • Increased sweating
  • Sexual problems, such as decreased libido and ejaculation failure
  • Shaking or tremor
  • Feeling fatigued or tired
  • Agitation
  • Anxiety

Combined use with alcohol may heighten effects like nausea, fatigue, drowsiness, and dizziness.

Interactions

Zoloft may interact with liver disease. Conversely, certain drugs can change the way Zoloft works. Combined use of the two could lead to a synergistic effect, or heightened effects of either substance.
