Beside Rexulti (brexpiprazole), other antipsychotic drugs can be used to treat symptoms of schizophrenia and major depressive disorder (MDD). You may talk with your doctor about the following Rexulti alternatives.

Potential Alternatives for Rexulti

Risperdal (risperidone)

Risperdal (risperidone) relieves symptoms of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, irritability associated with autistic disorder and autism spectrum disorder depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Tourette syndrome, and behavioral symptoms associated with dementia.

Risperdal is not only less likely to cause heart problems compared to other antipsychotics, but it also causes less sedation and weight gain.

Haldol (haloperidol)

Haldol (haloperidol) is used to treat schizophrenia, behavioral disorder and Tourette’s syndrome. Haldol is available in a cheap, generic version. Its monthly extended-release injection allows for more convenient dosing than a daily pill.

Abilify (aripiprazole)

Abilify (aripiprazole) can treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, autistic disorder irritability,  and Tourette’s. Compared to other antipsychotics, Abilify is more energizing and has fewer side effects. Especially in cisgender women, it can also be helpful for depression if symptoms don’t go away with an antidepressant alone. Abilify is available in a cheaper generic version as well.

Abilify is also available as a long acting injection which may be more convenient than taking a pill every day.
