While there are no reported major interactions between clindamycin and alcohol (light drinking), serious interactions may occur if the patient drinks excessively.

Side Effects

Side effects of heavy drinking while taking antibiotics include:

  • Nausea
  • Dizziness and lightheadedness
  • Sleepiness
  • Diarrhea

Interactions

Drinking alcohol while taking certain antibiotics may make the antibiotics ineffective. Some antibiotics may also lead to signs of a negative alcohol/antibiotic interaction, including flushing of the skin, increased pulse, and severe headache.
