While some antibiotics can pose a risk to pregnant woman, the following are considered safe: 

  • Penicillins, including amoxicillin and ampicillin
  • Cephalosporins, including cefaclor and cephalexin
  • Erythromycin
  • Clindamycin

Does amoxicillin increase fertility? 

There is no evidence to suggest that amoxicillin increases fertility.  

Does amoxicillin cross the placenta? 

Amoxicillin does cross the placenta and is safe to take while pregnant. Some bacterial infections can cross the placenta, though; amoxicillin treats them. Risk category B
